Cerveceria Catalana, Carrer de Mallorca, €€

The tapas in Barcelona can often be lacklustre and while many leave the city disappointed, no one will leave Cerveceria Catalana without their bellies full and mouths still watering. Located in Eixample on Carrer Mallorca, near Gaudì’s “La Pedrera” and “Casa Battló,” this authentic bar is full of character and it is upscale yet the prices are affordable, expect to spend around 20 euros per person for tapas and a drink. The restaurant specialises in tapas and traditional Catalan food and the highlights include crispy camembert, honey cod and prawn skewers. Don’t miss it!

El Xampanyet, Carrer de Montcada, €

The food at this tapas bar is very highly rated on TripAdvisor. It has a familial feel, it opened in 1929 and now run by the founder’s grandchildren. El Xampanyet is  in El Born right next to the the Picasso museum thus  it is  ideal to visit for lunch or after a long day of touristing. Moreover,  it is the place to go for the authentic feel as the food is traditional and full of flavour and expect to be surrounded by loud, chatty spaniards. Be sure to try the home made cava and the grilled squid.

In the heart of Born, La Luna is a hidden gem off a touristic street. Great value for money, we recommend the Tuna Tataki and the pan con tomate (bread with tomato) in addition to the homemade Sangria, although you cannot go wrong with the menu. Finally, the service is great and the portions are large.

Loft del Born, Plaça Comercial, €€

Well placed and modern, Loft del Born is located just off Passeig del Born. Loft del Born is the best place for great cocktails and good tapas. First of all, the gin and tonics are very sizeable.
