Barcelona Women’s Network
When moving to another city or country, it can be hard to get in touch with people and build friendships. At a younger age, you could just walk up to a classmate and you’d be friends in no time. As we get older, people get more shy and starting a friendship becomes more difficult.
The Barcelona Women’s Network was thinking the exact same thing in 1998 and decided to do something about it. The core business of BWN is to offer support and friendship to both local and international women residing in Barcelona. It all started as a small group of friends. Nowadays, it’s a dynamic and diverse group with about 210 female members from over 20 different nationalities.
The mix of both local and international women helps in getting to know more about the ins and outs of Barcelona. What better way to get to know a city than with the guidance of a local? Locals know where the typical Spanish bars and restaurants. This way you will make sure you will see more of Barcelona than just las Ramblas.
Meeting people in Barcelona can also lead to professional networking opportunities. As you know, when looking for a job it is not just about what you know, but also about who you know.
Barcelona women’s network offers different events
BWN is not only about socialising with women around Barcelona they also do charity and fundraising. For example they organise used book sales for all ages in English, Spanish and Catalan, as well as bake sales and kids’ corners.
Another event the network organises is a Spanish book club, where books in Spanish are read in order to improve Spanish, learn about the Hispanic world and create another social environment. In this way they are combining an educational effect with meeting and socialising with new people.
BWN organises events, including having drinks on a Friday night, morning walks in the parks and a marketing workshop. So if you want to know more people in Barcelona or get in touch with professionals you have to join the BWN.
